PR Velo is a cycling club created to honor the spirit and preserve the memory of our friend and brother in cycling Phil Richards. Phil died January 11, 2014, from injuries he sustained in a hit-and-run accident with an automobile while riding his bike. Phil was a special friend and teammate and an accomplished athlete who was dedicated to competitive cycling.
Update March 2015: The executive board of the Redlands Bicycle Classic has agreed to designate its masters 55+/60+ race on April 12, 2015, as the Phil Richards Memorial Criterium. Unless he was ill or injured, Phil competed in the masters races at Redlands nearly every year of its 30+ year history. Phil won the “Veterans” 35+ race in one of the very early years of the Classic, which began in 1985.
